I’m doing something quite scary today and sharing a poem for the first time ever on this blog. I have always loved creative writing but have felt discouraged in the past because of dyslexia and feeling put down. So this has actually just been sitting in my drafts for a while.
The poem is about my chronic fatigue, due to my chronic illnesses (EDS and PoTS) and how they affect my mental health. Today is Mental Health Awareness Day so thought it was the right time to finally press publish.
The blanket is still as it surrounds me,
Things feel blurred,
Thoughts become static,
I become numb.
A nothingness begins to fill my mind,
An emptiness arrives,
My blanket still surrounding me.
Time is erased,
Everything slowly drifts to a stop,
The emptiness becomes my state of being.
The state falls deeper,
Emptiness becomes more empty,
I have sunk,
Sunk into a state,
Surrounded by a blanket.
Thank you so much for reading. I know its a bit different from my usual posts but it’s been something I’ve wanted to share for a while now.
I hope that Mental Health Awareness Day helps you to you remember to always prioritise your mental health and to reach out if you need support because although you might not always feel like it, you matter and you are important.
